The Whipper Snappers (Scott, Toby) took on the Venerable Ones (Doug, Rob) for a 6:45am tee-time at Rehoboth Country Club. We deferred The Rules of Engagment to the zealous challengers.  They sided towards conservative wagering with a $5 prize, Match Play, per Nine -- and obviously showcasing their lack of experience that the traditional play is Nassau.

The Young Guns swung mightily and hit like thunder off the tees, each with their shiny new warhammers.  Nonetheless, the shots found the rough, the trees, the beach, and other nasties placed for "a good walk spoiled" (although we all rode).

The Old Terrible Twosome steadily and methodically fired back with a clack!  Some from mishits off the club's hosel, others from the sound of their vertebrae loosening up.

And the game was on!  The first 2 holes were taken by the Old Men.  Doug's off-the-green birdie attempt secured the 3rd hole.  Rob's solid putting with a birdie of his own on the 6th took the next three holes.  After losing the first 6 holes and still defiant, Toby wanted to up the stakes.  But a cooler-headed Scott quickly squelched that noise -- good thing, as Doug outdrove the young guns, and casually par'ed the 7th to add meaning to a meaningless win.  Toby validated that he was not just pissing in the wind, as he best negotiated the tricky 8th green with a solid par to avoid the shutout.

At the turn, the Young Guns were mildly distracted by a pair of Daisy Dukes serving a welcomed grilled sandwhich.  That seemed to invigorate, if not inspire, their play.  But like an excited adolescent, their shot would come early and end quickly.

The Shot of the Day belongs to Scott: his wayward tee shot found the 150-yard bush marker, saving it from further adventuring into the neighboring fairway.  He would mistakenly take a penalty stroke from an unplayable lie, but learned from The Masters that a Free Lift is awarded from any man-made obstruction.  That stroke reclaimed on the 14th was the difference-maker, and the back 9 would end unceremoniously as a tie.
